My Current Obsessions

If I am keeping it real, I am quite the obsessive person, like I can obsess over something for months at a time, but currently I have some stuff that I can't get enough of and I thought I would share. Things ranging from music, to books, to TV shows...anything really. Maybe some of my current favs are some of yours too!
American Gods
It has been a long time since a show has totally and completely encapsulated my full attention quite like this one. I'm not usually a fan of artsy shows with a ton of imagery and camera tricks, but for some reason I don't mind it with this show. From the moment the show starts to the second it ends, my attention is held so tight that I can't even take my eyes off the screen. Yes, the show is beyond complicated and if it were not for online summaries, I would be so lost, but it's intriguing and humorous. Each episode has new characters that are played by some well-known actors (Gillian Anderson briefly portrays Lucy from I Love Lucy - yes, like I said it's complicated). And I'm not going to lie, Shadow Moon (pictured above), or rather the actor Ricky Whittle, is probably the chief reason why I can't seem to take my eyes off the screen.
The show follows an ex-con (Shadow Moon and yes that's his actual name) who finds himself caught up with a man named Mr. Wednesday after meeting him on a flight home to go to his wife's funeral. Without giving too much away, let's just say that there are gods everywhere -gods of everything from death to guns, and there are even some genies and leprechauns thrown in there too. While it may seem like a fantasy world, it somehow seems all too realistic. I don't know how to express it any better because it is so unique, but you should definitely give it a try if you are looking for a new show to watch.
Law and Order: SVU
I don't know why it has taken me so long to jump on the SVU addiction train just like the rest of the world, but it has finally happened. Weekend marathons on Saturday and Sunday all day long are what dreams are made of, and it equates to hours of that good ole intro music and sound bite that we all know so well. I have to say, I enjoy the older episodes a bit better than the newer ones, but I have yet to find an episode that didn't enjoy. It's kinda sickening to think though that of all of the crime TV shows out there, the one the world seems to enjoy the most is the one with sex crime victims, and it's even more distributing to think that there are writers who have been creating new content and story-lines for the show for going on nineteen seasons. I'm not sure which of the two, the audience or the writers, is going to require the most therapy at the end of the day to deal with all the traumatic stories. My money's on the writers, but the summer is only beginning which means there are plenty of marathons left for this SVU newbee.
"Crying In The Club" - Camila Cabello
I have never been much of a Fifth Harmony fan, but now as Cabello has struck out on her own I have found a new song that practically lives in my head. When I listen to her voice I realize that hers is the one that sticks out the most in the old Fifth Harmony songs, and quite frankly it is the best in my opinion. I truthfully do not know much about the girl group or of Cabello, but all I can say is that this song is really good and I get why she left the group. I am kinda interested in hearing more from her when she releases a full album.
Mandy Lashes
I have an affiliate code! (Perhaps this is just my way of promoting myself, but I am obsessed with these lashes nonetheless). A few weeks ago Mandy Cosmetics, a luxury mink lash company in Canada reached out to me to try out there lashes, and after trying them and falling in love, they offered me to a become an affiliate with their brand. I never used to be a fake lash user because I do have rather long lashes, but I have recently gotten more into them over the past few months. It took me awhile to get used to applying fake lashes, but I think I have gotten it down pat. These lashes, however, are the best I have used so far. I started with Ardell lashes which is an extremely popular drug-store brand, but I have prefer these ones instead. And I honestly wouldn't promote these if I didn't truly believe in them.
Mandy Cosmetics is a relatively new company that donates 5% of every order to a cancer research foundation, and what is better than a company that gives back in such an amazing way? The lashes are hand-made and 100% cruelty free(bonus points in my book) and they look so pretty and natural. They can also be worn over 20 times, so you are really getting a bang for your buck. I find myself using these lashes all the time, even on days when I'm not going out because why not?
If you are interested in trying them out and becoming as obsessed with them as I am, use my code 'ChristinaB10' at check-out to save 10% on your order. You totally don't have to use it, but if you do, let me know how you feel about them. I would love to hear your feedback.

Peanut Butter
OK, perhaps rather random, but for some reason I have been craving peanut butter like a crazy person. I never used to be a huge peanut butter fanatic, but recently my Pinterest boards have been filled with nothing but peanut butter recipes and ideas. Last week I made homemade Tagalongs, like the girl scout cookies, but I think they came out a bit better than the real deal.
Here is the link to the recipe I used to make them if you want to try them for yourself: http://www.thatskinnychickcanbake.com/tagalong-cookie-bars/
I would have saved a picture of the batch I made, but they didn't last very long in the household for me to do that because they were so good! If you are interested, you can click through my Pinterest page if you want to see any of the other recipes I am planning on making in the coming weeks that are peanut butter related.
Tiny Food Videos
Has anyone else been watching these videos nonstop? I don't know why someone would choose to take the time to cook tiny food and film it for the world to see, but I guess there are people out there with quite a lot of free time on their hands with nothing better to do. I also guess that I am no better for taking the time to watch these videos, but there is something satisfying and calming about watching them. Weird? Yes. But so is the vast majority of the internet.
Ethan Frome- Edith Wharton
After reading Wharton's Summer, I couldn't wait to begin reading this book. I read Summer last semester in my Literature of Women class and I loved it. I loved it for its realistic approach which is hard to come by in novels with a female protagonist. For instance, Jane Eyre has a picturesque almost fantasy-like ending, but in the case of Charity Royall - well without giving it all away - her life kinda sucks and it only gets worse by the end of the story.
Given the hectic college life, I had lost touch with my love of books and my appreciation for good literature, but my last English class not only revamped my love, but also pushed me into adding an English minor. I am now taking more English classes and I even emailed my professor for next semester (I had her for this past English class as well) to get the reading list for the fall, which is how I ended up reading this novella.
When it comes to Wharton, I not only love her because of her sense of realism, but I love her for her kind of descriptive language. She doesn't go on and on for pages describing tiny little things that have no relevance to the story. She is more to the point and when she describes something, it is done with a distinct purpose. I've only just begun reading Ethan Frome, but from what little I have read, it is going to be a good read! I look forward to reading more and I will be sure to update you all on my overall thoughts on the book when I'm done.
So those were some of my current obsessions. Let me know what you are obsessing over or of any good books you have read or shows you are watching. I would love to hear from you!
